This is the time of the year when most people put emphasis on gift-giving and spending quality time with family and friends. It’s also the time of year when people seem to be most charitable toward those less fortunate than themselves. I thank God for the goodwill that is extended toward others. However, I believe all of us can use more of God’s grace during the holiday season. The good news is that Jesus, Who is the reason for the season, came to give us more of God’s grace—His unmerited, undeserved favor!
In this issue of CHANGE magazine, I will share with you how to trust the way of grace in your family relationships, in your interaction with other people, and most importantly, in your relationship with the Person of grace, Jesus Christ.
You have been made the righteousness of God by faith in Jesus Christ. God declared you righteous! All you have to do is believe it and receive it. Your righteousness is a finished work. When you trust the way of grace, it opens the door for you to receive everything that grace has made available to you—divine healing, deliverance, a sound mind, wholeness, prosperity, the promise of safety and divine protection—and so much more!
When you trust the way of grace, loving others—even the unlovely—will no longer be an issue. Why? Most relationships don’t fail because of a lack of love—they fail because of a lack of grace. Every Christian has the love of God. His love and grace rules in our hearts and teaches us to live self-controlled lives. Your job is not to play “Holy Ghost Junior” by trying to change people’s behavior. Only God can change a person’s heart. Your job is to stay in faith, stay in a posture of prayer, and stay on the Word for your family, and other relationships. Don’t be quick to give up, cave in, and quit on people. If God’s grace was able to pull you up out of a ditch, it can do the same for your loved ones. When people understand grace, they will be empowered to change!
People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care! Make your mind up that this holiday season you’re going to give the gift of love! People may not deserve it, but neither did we! God extended His love, grace, and mercy to us by sending Jesus to die for us while we were still dead in sin! Hallelujah! Grace promotes obedience to the faith, which means receiving by faith what grace has already made available to you. The love of God has been written on your heart. It’s already available to you. Choose to love and extend grace to people right where they are. Grace will empower you to love the unlovely—no matter what.
Above all else, celebrate and give thanks this Christmas season for the Person of grace, Jesus Christ! He’s the greatest gift this world has ever received!
