This month, millions of Christians around the world will commemorate the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. However, Resurrection Sunday takes on a whole new meaning for me this year. Many months ago, the Lord directed me to do an extensive study on grace. Since I began studying and teaching on grace, my life has been transformed. I’m experiencing new revelations about grace like never before! And there is one thing I know for sure—Jesus did it all! As a result of Jesus coming to this earth and dying for our sins, we now have grace to help us to live like He did on this earth (1 John 2:6, AMP).
Jesus was empowered to have success when He walked the earth. He was empowered by grace, and God wants us to operate in that same empowerment. Many Christians are working hard to achieve the same success Jesus had. For instance, they turn prayer, confessions, church attendance, and even reading the Bible into vain, religious rituals. In order to receive grace, however, we must understand that it is a free gift from God that cannot be earned, no matter how hard we work for it. We gain access to grace by using our faith to receive it. We simply have faith in what Jesus has already done instead of trying to achieve grace on our own. So, now those spiritual activities I mentioned—praying, speaking God’s Word, church attendance, and reading the Bible—become avenues through which we increase our faith.
Those of us who are truly born again received our salvation by grace, through faith (Ephesians 2:8, 9, AMP). We didn’t simply quote the salvation prayer; we believed in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believed that God raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 10:9, 10, NLT). We heard a solid message on salvation, and it stirred our faith, and we accepted what Jesus did for us. We did not have to work hard to achieve our salvation; we simply believed.
Likewise, the same grace we received to become born-again Christians is the same grace we receive to live successfully as Christians. Grace not only rescues us from eternal damnation but also empowers us to live successful lives. Many Christians do not understand the power they have within their born-again spirits because they don’t know how to tap into the grace God has freely given to His children. However, it is by grace, through faith, that we obtain the promises of God.
This spring edition of CHANGE will give you practical insight on how you can tap into the power to overcome sexual sin, build healthy relationships, live your new life in grace, and much more. Plus, as an added bonus, we have a feature story on veteran comedian Akintunde!
