When choosing a man as a potential mate, many women base their decisions on the wrong criteria. As a result, they often end up hurt and confused. However, all of that heartache can be prevented. First and foremost women should pray about a potential mate and seek God’s guidance in the matter. Remember, attracting just any man is not wise and will not add quality to your life. Every woman’s desire should be to attract a man of godly character.
Character is doing what is right even when you have the opportunity to do wrong. For example, Creflo and I met while we were in college. He conducted a Bible study on campus. When I attended one of his Bible studies, I witnessed firsthand that he was a young man with extraordinary character. Although he took what he was doing seriously, it would have been easy for him to have been a hypocrite—doing what many others were doing—but he wasn’t. Instead, he chose to be the exception. It was important to him to live the life he preached about. As I watched him, I was able to see how he handled adversity and protected what was precious to him. I paid close attention to how carefully he taught the Bible studies, as well as how he conducted himself outside of them. What I saw was a man of great character and integrity. Seeing these principles in Creflo helped me to decide that he was someone I wanted to know on a more personal level. Eventually, we became friends, and we are still best friends today!
A man’s character is the most important criteria to consider. Do not fall into the trap the world is trying to set for single women today. Just because a man is good looking, has plenty of money, drives a nice car, etc., does not mean He is a man of character. You have to look deeper to see who he really is.
My advice to single women is do not seek a mate, but seek God. This is a great time to focus on becoming a woman of character, after God’s own heart. Additionally, use this time to concentrate on understanding your worth. Before you can establish successful relationships with others, you must love and value who you are. You must love yourself first, not in a selfish way, but in a godly way.
You are a daughter of the Most High God, who created you to manage a household, give birth to and train children, and soothe and encourage others. However, while you are single you have a wonderful opportunity to be solely devoted to God. I encourage you to make a list of all the characteristics that make you unique. In addition, discover your God-given talents and abilities and use them to serve others. Then, when your mate finds you, believe me, you won’t have to tell him to put a ring on your finger! He’ll be more than happy to do so.
