It’s found in most of the things you eat every day, is highly addictive, and is probably one of the main causes of many health issues people face today. This white, granulated powder called refined sugar is an enemy to your body's cells and immune system, and eating a diet that is full of refined sugar is asking for trouble, health-wise. However, by arming yourself with knowledge about this toxic substance, you can begin to take control of your health and have a better chance of experiencing a disease-free life.
Refined sugar has been taken through a process that removes the vitamin, mineral and nutrient content, leaving behind a white powder that consists of pure, refined carbohydrates that are unusable by the body. Consequently, the body must draw upon its own nutrient stores in order to metabolize or break down the sugar. This process throws your body into an imbalanced and acidic state, as more and more minerals and nutrients are pulled from your body's natural reserves.
Because of the toxic nature of sugar and the damage it causes to literally all major bodily functions, it can cause and contribute to numerous physical challenges, including but not limited to obesity, gallstones, hypertension, and arthritis. In addition, because it interferes with your white blood cell's ability to absorb Vitamin C, which helps to ward off disease, sugar lowers your immune system. Both the American Diabetic Association and the American Diatetic Association agree that sugar consumption in America is one of three major causes of degenerative disease.
Excessive sugar consumption also has a detrimental effect on mental health. Vitamin B, which is critical to a healthy brain and mental function, is depleted when there is too much sugar in a person’s system. As a result, sleepiness, the inability to concentrate, mood swings, nervous disorders, and other mental challenges can result.
The best way to avoid the health dangers of sugar is to completely cut it out of your diet. The second best is to drastically reduce your intake as much as you possibly can. This means becoming meticulous about what you eat and drink on a daily basis. It is probably unrealistic to think you will never eat foods with sugar, but you can make a conscious decision to eliminate it as much as possible.
Staying away from sweets such as cookies, candy, soft drinks and other treats is the most obvious way to avoid sugar, but it is also important to read the labels of the food you buy to determine its sugar content. Reading labels and researching the ingredients in your food are ways to guard against consuming too much sugar.
While it may not be easy to wean yourself from the sweet poison called sugar at first, especially because of its addictive quality, the sooner you make the decision to get it out of your diet, the farther you will be down the path to wellness, wholeness, and divine health!
